“I have had hundreds of gigs
where the soundman/engineer
had never even heard of the
tabla much less ever mixed them.
I decided long ago to get a
"tabla rig" to take control of my
sound. My first rig was one
Oktava MK-012 and A Presonus
VXP channel strip. I would
tweak the two to work in
harmony with each other then just hand the soundman an XLR out for the snake. In this way I could control my sound
from the stage. The rig I am using now for live shows as well as in the studio is a matched pair of Oktava MK-012's and 2
Eureka's. Now I just hand the soundman 2 lines and have just about the best sound possible. The tabla drums have
many different timbres, textures, and frequencies all of which are difficult to tame when trying to amplify or record. The
Oktava / Eureka rig, A.K.A "The Perfect Pair" ,handle this task (without compromising the original sound of the
instrument) as if they were made for it.. The people at "Oktava USA" and "Recording Services" are the most
knowledgeable people around when it comes to Oktava microphones and your specific sound reinforcement needs. The
fact that they are extremely friendly and sincere have made me proud to be a part of their family"

About the same time he started using
Oktava, he also discovered Presonus
preamps and channel strips. After
using the Presonus VXP for many
years, he has switched to the Eureka
which allows him even greater
flexibility
